Lattouf’s lawyer asks the ABC Managing Director David Anderson “are you aware of any breaches of ABC impartiality in connection with this action”. Anderson says no.

Lawyer then puts up an ABC headline saying “Israel-Gaza war: Human Rights Watch says starvation is being used as a ‘weapon of war’ by the Israeli government”. And “VIDEO: Human Rights Watch accuses Israel of weaponising starvation in Gaza”

They fired Lattouf for alleged partiality over her social media posts re-sharing HRW reports about Gaza. It’s hard to claim breaches of impartiality for resharing the same thing the ABC is reporting on.

Do you say that this is an impartial statement: ‘Australia is a racist country’.

Lattouf’s lawyer puts, during a line of questioning about how Lattouf was sanctioned for not-impartial comments in her private life, though in other cases (such as the above quote by Laura Tingle) they have chosen not to take action. Mr Anderson says that yes, it is an impartial statement, because it is based in fact.

So this factual statement is ok, but the factual statement about Israel committing war crimes is not ok, apparently.

And worse: Ms Tingle specifically called out Peter Dutton’s racist dogwhistling and enabling of far-right hate. Yet in the upcoming election, she is likely to be a political correspondent, and will probably even conduct an interview with both Peter Dutton and Antony Albanese.

Fuck me. After more than 15 minutes in this line of questioning, Mr Anderson finally admitted that yes, “Australia is a racist country” could be regarded as not impartial.
