I kept saying this would happen. Citizens will be detained and eventually probably deported. Because Trump literally believes that people can just have their citizenship taken away from them on a whim.

Yep, me too all because they were brown. Racism was always the point of Trump deportation stick. And fucking mega base is loving it. We can thank those who set at the election and the never Harris crowd for now all stuck in this hellhole. Except for FlyingSquid who luckily was able to escape. But fucking people had just voted he would had to escape which probably wasn’t easy.

It is not easy, but it is something I was lucky to be able to do. Right now, no job, my savings are running out, my wife (a librarian, risking imprisonment) is still stuck in the U.S., and if I don’t find anything in a couple of months, what I do have saved up will be gone and I don’t know what we’ll do.

But yeah, a lot of people will be worse off than us and I’m sorry.

As another librarian, it’s fucking terrifying work these days. We are beloved by the people but a giant target for this administration. I loved this work for decades but I’m about to flee for industry because I’m exhausted. We’re also not super portable, library jobs are hard to come by and those outside the US are hot right now.

I’m sorry too that you had to flee and go through your savings (which probably took lot time to even do) and start over in other country. I am trying to find work here in the states and having a hard time so I can’t imagine what your going through. I hope it works out for both of us. Good luck for both of us.

I am a dual citizen. Which means I can legally live in the UK.

If I don’t get a job paying at least £29,000 a year, I can’t get a family visa. My daughter can legally stay here for six months without one, but not get any public healthcare. This has already been a problem. No doctor was available on time and she ran out of one of her pills and FedEx refused to ship it on time and now she had to quit it cold turkey and is feeling the effects. Thankfully, I can step her back up again when the pills arrive today.

Sorry to hear about your family troubles - hope it’s sorted soon. Shouldn’t your daughter be eligible for citizenship by descent, since you’re one? At least here in Portugal that is the case.

Unfortunately, no. She is eligible for permanent residency, but only if I make over the income threshold of £29,000 a year.

Well I didn’t get my citizenship from birth myself. I got it through my father because if you’re born before 1983 to a native Brit who was married to your mother when you were born anywhere in the world, you get automatic citizenship. But it doesn’t transfer down.

And that law itself changed some time after I was born because my father tried when I was a baby and it wasn’t transferable at all. But that was before the British Empire completely collapsed.

It’s already happened in Arizona before. It’s why Joe Arpaio was convicted – contempt for continuing to profile and round up immigrants after a court told him to stop. Pardoned by Trump.

And even after all that and tent cities, he ran for office again. Didn’t win but the fact he was even allowed to try again is a major flaw in the system

Hey everyone! This person kept saying this would happen!

I mean why didn’t we just listen to this specific one commenter? They kept saying this would happen. As if no one else could have anticipated it.

When will we learn to listen to [random commenter].
