Well, unfortunately you can’t just shut down the entire grid and start it up on a whim. Storage is needed. And is going down in price, up in scalability and availability. And the feasable technologies get bigger in numbers, top.
The machines of our capitalist overlords never sleep though. Bad news for the workers in shift work, who have to keep the machines running.

I see no contradiction, the machines run nontheless, so not all the people get to sleep at night.
