They constantly speak of the eye of sauron though, so it makes sense to show it in the movie.

But It was visually awesome. If they would have described that in the book it would have seemed corny and off-putting. I think they adapted the movies pretty well. I almost would have liked to see Tom bombadil in some form, At the same time he was far too … everything to put in the movie
