Counterpoint: the Olympics have gotten too big, and need to be scaled back. They keep entire countries hostage for months. They require massive investment. It’s getting harder and harder to find places to host them, especially if you have qualms about little things like human rights abuses or slavery.
Just go back to a single foot trace every four years and call it a day.
A suggestion so absurdly stupid I couldn’t help but share it with more people. Every 4 years keeps the Olympics special, helps prevent it stepping on other events’ toes, and most importantly helps host cities. Contrary to the reporter’s assertions, it’s proving damn near impossible to find host cities, and it’s an incredibly expensive process for those they do find. Only one city “bid” for 2032, and we’re still debating where to put the damn main stadium.

Regardless of the main point, how can you state multiple times that Paris was the best Olympics without even acknowledging the contaminated river once?

Throw the Greeks a bone a let them host the summer olympics every 4 years. Let a smattering of other cities/locations do specialized and scaled back hosting for specific olympic events: like they do for surfing. They can keep the bribery ring mechanism for the winter olympics because that’s really whats important for IOC
But anyway: One set of infrastructure the globe can invest in.
Then you can have a ‘host’ country come to olympic arena and decorate and present the games in the style of their nation.
How about we make a new Olympic country to stop fucking up the cities that host it
