Pigeons are desensitized to human activity due to their generations of living in cities and around people.
I can only assume it’s because they are stupid…
The only live bird my cat has managed to bring home has been a pigeon, all other birds were dead and mostly chicks.

Well the cat probably noticed you hadn’t killed any birds yet, so it was trying to help you learn how. It brought home the dumbest, easiest to catch bird it could find.
Pigeons are dumb as rocks. Look closely at how many toes they have, you’ll understand.
