The issue was that the defreezing options at the time were too slow, and didn’t penetrate the outer layer into the core of the creature, but with the invention of the microwave they actually got the process working.
Okay so typing this out it is a little cruel actually, but it’s still kinda neat and led to furthering our knowledge of the universe.
