Hey y’all, I don’t want to share too much but do any of you know any good resources for people who want to come back to veganism?

Stuff like help with meal planning.
Navigating social situations.
Psychologically dealing with doing the best you can and making a fresh start.

    • check out the forks over knives meal planner, it’s a pretty nice tool which gives you the grocery list for the week and all the recipes. During the pandemic that plus instacart was an amazing combo. Or if you want to plan it yourself/don’t want to pay, rice, beans, lentils, soy (tempeh, tofu, soy curls or tvp, etc), potatoes, and frozen fruits and veggies are your friends. With those things plus spices you’ve got curry, stir fry, rice+beans, tacos/burritos, sandwiches, tofu scramble (breakfast burritos), stew, chili, soup, and a lot more
    • I mainly hang out with vegans and don’t eat at tables where animal products are eaten, usually people seem pretty understanding if I say “i think eating animal products is unethical, so I prefer not to be around people doing that”, although it’s definitely not easy. A general trick I use for anxiety which works here is to look at the situation and try to use a sort of first principles approach: is what I’m doing hurting anybody? if not then it’s probably fine, although social costs have to be weighed, but if I’m not hurting anybody and I’m open and honest about my intentions, where I’m coming from, and why I’m doing what I’m doing, it tends to work out
    • Dealing with doing your best and fresh starts is tough, especially living in a world where pretty much everything we do or buy causes some harm. I’m working on getting to a point where I don’t need to contribute to that kind of stuff, but it’s a lot of work. I think the best bet is to make plans to push society to change in positive ways, so people can live without causing so much harm. Seriously consider the question “what can I do to fix the broken systems our society runs on”, don’t take action for actions sake but really do your best to think about what you think needs to change and what you can realistically do to change it (including how you can work with others towards common goals), and then go do that. BREAKFAST by half alive also has a really nice lyric for starting again on stuff, it hits real nice when you listen to it: “It’s a second chance, it won’t be your last” https://genius.com/Halfalive-breakfast-lyrics
