I’m hosting a networking event, and I managed to snag a free venue that fits all of us. Problem is, it’s not a bar. No food or water provided.

My budget is honestly as close to nothing as I can get it, but I also want to provide something to people.

For water, my only idea is to get bottles od water. A water cooler would be nice, but those are expensive.

It’d be nice to have snacks too. I could just get bags of chips, maybe cookies, but I don’t know how much I need to cover ~100 people. If anyone has ideas or experience, please let me know :)

Why don’t you make it a potluck? Perhaps you can buy water cans which hold 20 litres of water and use a cheap water dispenser from Amazon. They fit in the cap of the water can. It is around 5 dollars. The manual ones would be even cheaper. Also paper cups. Lots of them 😄

That late means you don’t have to worry about a meal, snacks are fine. A discount warehouse is your best bet here. Get a couple of trays of cookies, some large bags of chips, stuff like that.

As for water, you can get giant 50 or 100L bottles that can be set up as dispensers. For food I would suggest buying some kind of jumbo pack of things like a cookie sampler or pretzels from Costco.

Rice and beans are pretty cheap. Maybe tacos? You could even make it for fun by using a tiny bag of Doritos instead of taco shells.

Open a tiny bag of Doritos and put in your taco ingredients (rice, beans, beef etc.). Close the bag, crush it, and shake it.

Food truck? I hired one for my wedding and it was only ~$18/person. That includes a dessert. But we were paying for people.

Just let people buy their own food from the truck. I think they only have a $100 travel fee. Obviously this depends on the food truck you order, but we didn’t have a hard time finding a reasonable one. They also have drinks as an option most of the time.

For providing your own drinks, do you have any close friends involved in this event? Maybe you could ask them to scrounge together some money. Because - like you said - even water is going to be expensive for 100 people.

If you don’t have anyone that can help pay, you’re super limited. Gatorade sells small 12oz versions of their drinks in 24 packs. It was like $10 at the store. So $50 for Gatorade options for 100 people. Water is probably comparable. They also have 10oz waters in 24packs. Those are cheap. Soda and solo cups can actually cut down on cost since you can buy soda in 2liter bottles.

Now that I think about it, those large coolers (like the orange ones you see on Football fields) only cost $30-$50. Buy two of those and just fill them with water. You can dump ice in them. Then provide people with cups.

If you want to be really cheap, Walmart has a pretty robust return policy. You might be able to return those to Walmart after you use them. Not ethical, but cheap.

You can also just scout Goodwill and other thrift stores. You’d be surprised what you can find. You basically need any large coolers/vessels for water.
