I’m glad to read that thedonald community is now banned. There’s no room here for hate speech, bigotry, racism, homophobia, bullying and such.

    Aye

Honestly, in general, I do not like the vigilante justice that is taking place here, but I have to acknowledge that agora is being setup a bit too slowly to deal with things that might have huge ramifications later. The vacuum of power is a problem.

As far as I can tell one user has drawn a lot of negative attention to our entire instance and that puts the hard work of others at risk

So, although I feel I have fallen short of my conviction to protect others speech as much as I would want my own protected, Im going aye this time in this case.

      I’m with you there.

I’m not a big fan of the idea in general, but this isn’t a case that we’re disrupting a community who is trying to be legitimate, if right leaning, and follow the rules. It’s literally a single poster and their comment history is a series of troll comments.

On top of that, the community name chosen is a lightning rod for criticism and there’s no way that this poster would not know that.

They’re not here to engage with the community in good faith. They’re trolling and staying just within the instance rules to further muddy the waters.

    QUACK
    I mean Aye

Simple reasoning. On one hand you’ve got a troll craving the attention, adding nothing of value, neither in that community nor to the instance itself, possibly endangering federation with some folks for nothing else than riling people up.

On the other hand: Donald Duck
Now, I’m not even the biggest fan of the Duck himself, but Duck is infinitely better than someone stirring shit up for the sake of stirring shit.

    Aye.

Edit: Oh wait, the community is deleted. Well, disregard my vote. It should stay gone.

    This is an interesting one.

It’s easy to acknowledge that trump is a huge douche. You also have to acknowledge that about half of the USA voting public supported him.

It’s easy to make the “even one nazi at the bar” argument online but it’s kinda dumb in light of the huge number of supporters he had. Does that make the USA a nazi state? If so does that make the UN and nato? I think you would have a hard time assembling any group of folks as large as the community here without picking some of his supporters up. Is your local street/small town/college/whatever group nazi based because of that?

It doesn’t help the political discussion at all to pretend a huge fraction of the population are beyond reason. Disagree with them all you want but they still exist and the world at large has to include them.

That all being said, I 100% support this change. Skimming that community and his posts makes its pretty obvious its just a troll and possibly an alt. If it was an organic community that would be different. This proposal is an excellent way to deal with a troll.

Being a student of history, it seems to happen often enough to caution against dismissing out of hand the possibility that it’s not limited to imagination or pretending on behalf of those observing the behavior of a huge fraction of the population.

Aye, squatting on the name is the best way to keep that den of jackasses from popping up somewhere else.

    Donald Duck for President 2024.

In all seriousness, the user who made that community seems to be trolling. The community has essentially zero activity and serves as a lightning rod to the outrage junkies who like yelling ‘Nazi bar’ at the drop of a hat.

You have to remember that t_d on Reddit started the exact same way. The original creator even tried shutting it down when he realized what it had become. It’s only a matter of time, especially now that the alt-right has had time to ferment.

This does seem like a fun way to deal with the issue.

No doubt many outsiders will just see the name and look no further to get the joke though. That said, most people like that have probably already defederated us anyway.

There’s a T_D on I think Lemmy.World that’s anti Trump and it seems like enough people get far enough into the content to realize what they’re doing that it’s not a problem. I would hope the same happens here.

    Aye!

This is genius and the correct way to deal with trolls/fascists. Their beliefs get people killed and are ridiculous.
