Whatcha playing?

I have been playing a tonnnn of UFO 50. I am absolutely obsessed with this game. There are so many fun and high quality games in this collection. I’m impressed with how polished and interesting every game is. I really feel there is something for everyone in this collection

I finished Doom in the most recent re-release (Doom + Doom II), Ultra-Violence, Pistol Start and no save scumming. The base game isn’t too difficult, but still one level per episode gave me some trouble. The fourth episode is a massive step-up in difficulty though. E4M6 took me a lot of tries, but it got a lot easier, once I found some secrets with extra weapons.

After Doom, I continued with Doom II, still on UV, Pistol Start, no saves, and the first few levels are no issue, but it got tough real quick. Basically, just like E4 in the first game, it’s often about finding the best path to more weapons and ammo. The levels are also more open, so you usually have a few different paths to choose from, so figuring stuff out takes a bit. Depending on how it goes, I might start looking at the wiki to check out secrets and pickups and kinda plan a route that way.

I also finished Lies of P. It’s a good game and I had fun, but the there are definitely some weird decisions by the devs, although they were pretty minor. Weapon durability felt pretty pointless, I think only for two or three boss fights did I have to sharpen during the fight. Same with the jump, which is only needed a few times. However, since it’s like Dark Souls, so you need to sprint to be able to jump, any more would have sucked anyway. Might as well put in a dedicated button like Elden Ring and make it better, or just remove it. The weapon system was pretty neat, even though I basically just used three different heads and handles. I loved the perfect block mechanic, especially if it also destroyed the enemy weapon. Too bad it doesn’t work on the monster enemies, I guess, since they don’t really carry a weapon. The story got pretty lame in the end, but it’s whatever. I disliked two boss fights, the first Black Brotherhood fight since it was a gank fight, and the penultimate boss, because the hitboxes were just really weird, and I was constantly getting shoved around. Even on a perfect block I was a mile away from the boss, so a follow-up really sucked

Finally, I started Horizon Forbidden West: The Burning Shores DLC. I played the base game earlier this year, when it released on Steam, but I’m not really feeling the huge 3D open world right now. I’ll still finish the story, since it’s pretty short, but will probably only do the critical path and little to no exploring.

I’m trying to focus on Nier: Automata, halfway through the 9S playthrough, it’s an interesting game, not very deep in gameplay, but every so often surprises me.

I’ve also just picked up Monster Hunter Rise with Sunbreak, I’ve never really played a MH game properly and find them really Grundy, but I hear Rise isn’t so bad so wanted to give it a fair go.

Also just finished getting a Druid to 100 in Diablo IV, my first season and I am done with the game in about 2 weeks, I may try another class in the next season but the game seems very shallow and repetive.

Loved Nier: Automata. I didn’t finish it completely, I think I got through Nines’ playthrough and stopped after that and sold the game.

That music sticks in your head though! Have you seen the Anime?

Yeah the music is really nice.

I haven’t seen the anime, I don’t really know anything about the series apart from this game, but I hear there’s quite a bit of other media out there

I picked up and finished Nodebuster this week. It’s a pretty chilled out incremental improvement style game that almost becomes idle closer to the end.

I’ve also been trying to get some games of Spectre Divide (new f2p tactical FPS game) in this week too.

I’ve been finishing off Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey on my Xbox One X. I mostly enjoyed it but many of the RPG mechanics were quite tiresome. I hear Valhalla is even longer, which doesn’t bode well. Odyssey was already hitting the upper limit for me and the mechanics were starting to grow stale.

Still, the world was fairly pretty and it had a surprising amount of comedy in it. The fighting mechanics were mostly fun, although the lack of hidden blades and stupid auto-leveling content rather worked against the demi-god power fantasy.

I should probably get my Steam Deck RMA’d so I can play something else, but that requires more mental effort than I can handle right now.

Finished Doom and am about halfway through Doom II, but I’m kind of getting sick of it, so I might put it away for a while.

Decided on playing Amnesia: The Bunker again. I thought about doing some achievement hunting, but so far I’ve just taken things pretty chill. At least as chill as you can be hiding from a monster in a bunker.

I decided I wanted to replay Skyrim so I went and downloaded a few mod packs from Wabbajack and played through the intro to Bleakfalls Barrow on each.

Nordic Souls is a 200GB pack that makes the game feel modern and look great! My poor 1060 struggled in some places but the world is gorgeous and the interface is much better. It has the quick loot feature from Fallout 4 and overall feels like a great pack if you want to replay Skyrim but want something that feels new. Also it comes with like 1000 hair styles.
I did have a frustrating bug that made my crosshair disappear while trying to be a stealth archer, and the map was a 2D paper map which didn’t have enough detail for my liking. The list is like 1300 mods so didn’t where to look to fix those things.

Then I tried out Legends of the Frost, which is closer to 40GB total and is a more tame pack that mostly fixes bugs and enhances the vanilla world. I added the quick loot mod and this is what I’ll be playing on, the performance is much smoother on my graphics card and I don’t really feel the need for all the extra content. The world is still a lot prettier!

Nordic Souls is absolutely worth it if you’ve got the space though. There were more enemies wandering around Bleakfalls Barrow which made it a little harder, the refreshed map made it feel fresh to explore (I was surprised at some of the differences in world props!), and it has a ton of new content in the form of quests, companions, locations, spells, weapons, armor, etc. And I definitely recommend wabbajack, it makes these crazy mod lists a 1-click install (as long as you have the prerequisites)

Never tried the modpack, always did my own. Which ends up playing more in the modmanager than the game, but the results are epic and exactly what I want.

Besides. You might wanna give ElderScrollsOnline a shot. Even if you hate MMOs. It’s a ton of ES, a bit of skyrim, and massive totally voiced content. Even some many good quests, not just the kill x of y and get back to do more of it.

Also it’s the most anti-social social game ever 😁 Yet still having a very mature and helpful community.

That’s what I was trying to avoid! Nordic Souls adds so much littered around that it was a nice surprise and mostly something I’d play.

Does ESO have controller support? I’ve heard good things about it forever, just never played further than the (quite good) beta.

Yeah sure, it’s a never ending story if you start to make your own modpack. Dunno if i would start again.

ESO does have controller support. Many ppl actually play with one on pc. However they manage that,i just suck with controllers. I only played the beta too for a bit and just tried again a few months ago. It really aged fine. With just a bit of effort (or spending bucks for shortcuts) you can be in the endgame very quickly. If one does desire to. Also, mods make it a lot better. There aren’t as many as for skyrim, but that’s good 😁

I didn’t know ESO had mods, interesting! I’ll have to try it.

You’re right about the never-ending story, even with the pack I found I’ve gone and added a few 😆

            Thanks for the info!

It’s really just the exactly right amount of mods. Pick the things you want and be done in an hour or so. With auto-updates.

    Space Marine II. Simply brutal.

Hogwarts. Okay. Too much walking around and moving long distances. Also crashes fairly frequently.

Helldivers 2. Got a big update that seems to make things work morw like they should. Less bullet sponge. Fewer server disconnections. Excellent game.

    Also fuck Sony.

Sadly reaching the end of Pokemon Unbreakable Ties beta 4.

Also ended up downloading Frogatto recently because I’ve heard some good things about it and so far a couple levels in it’s fun enough. Not fun enough that I’d be giving it glowing reviews across the board, but fun enough to play on occasion.

Well, over the past week I finished my second full Hard run of EDF6 with a modded class, and I updated several mods on other games. Got the updated Shutoko Revival Project on Assetto Corsa, the new Gran Turismo 4 Spec II, which I’m enjoying a lot, feels like a new game. And the Dawn of War Unification team pushed out a minor patch for the 20th anniversary of the series. I am also considering upgrading my old build of STALKER Gamma from late last year to the current one. My setup is working but they added a lot of new things since then that I want to check out, like new early game guns.

Damn haha that’s definitely a way to do it. I am playing them in order, but some I am putting off beating until later. Barbuta I definitely want to come back to but I was getting frustrated. I think the snake like one that has garden in the title was the first one I beat. I think out of the first 25 I’ve beaten 6 or so?

Also I saw this tip online. You may want to start pilot quest soon, as it is kind of an idle game, and you can accrue resources while the game is off or playing the other games. It’s nice to pop to between other games to see whats built up and spend resources to get more idle stuff going

In Barbuta, I had to take screenshots of the rooms and map them out, definitely recommend doing this, it helped tremendously, but it was still a tough one! I’m super excited to play the others. Bug Hunter is a ton of fun if you haven’t tried it already btw!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll go ahead and get that started, they really have so many genres, it’s awesome!

It really is awesome! And that’s a good idea for mapping the rooms I’ll definitely try that out. Yeah bug hunter is cool! I completed 1 job before moving on but I def want to do the 3 that give you the gold for that game at some point.

Been rotating between a few games:

Slowly playing through Trails of Cold Steel, which is finally starting to pick up after chapter 4 (the characters are still pretty dull and I’m not a huge fan of the orbment changes).

Played a bit of Tales of Vesperia which I’m enjoying more than expected, but got distracted and mostly played Dragon’s Dogma which is really fun but a bit confusing on where I’m supposed to go (and when).

I also got Triangle Strategy, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ys Memories of Celceta and Ys Oath in Felghana which were all on sale, but haven’t started any yet.
