Would you buy a computer made of wood for the price of a used car? Maybe not. But you should be glad they exist.
I remember seeing this project on Reddit a while ago, but I was very confused about why some guy’s wooden cyberdeck got a huge article in The Verge until I got to this sentence:
One of the people who liked the Mythic I was Max Novendstern, who is, among other things, a co-founder of the crypto startup Worldcoin.
Ah.
Haha, totally fair. I’ll admit I hadn’t seen much about cyberdecks and now am a little annoyed by this article. Some questions about the ergonomics on this one for sure, but still worth sharing I suppose.
Have you seen the origin essay? As somebody into computers, mech keyboards, and woodworking, it’s, uhhh, a LOT.
Dude needs to find a new sawmill, among other things. $600 is a lot for the wood required to make a cyberdeck.
This is something an arch user would buy. See my wood pc it runs arch btw
I remember some threads on reddit about wood computer housing and the case was made pretty convincingly that it was a bad idea for reasons of heat and airflow. IIRC someone had built their computer into their desk.
Looks like there is only 1 computer pictured (existing?) and it must be horrible to use. Neck would really hurt at that angle. You’d end up putting it up on a pile of books and attaching an external kb. Probably why his “stories” directory only has 3 files in it.
