yes
Good stuff tho
Great poem, I just started reading her first book.
Not in a confrontational way but can you (or anyone) break down why this is a good? I’m sure I have a shallow view of poetry but I’m not seeing anything in it that is technically impressive
Coltrane once said of jazz: “if it sounds good it is good”. It’s okay if it doesn’t speak to you. Maybe the responses here gave you a different perspective and you could appreciate it. If it still doesn’t it’s still okay 🙂
O I am not a poetry gurl, I can not break things down, I’m so sorry! I just like the strange e.e. cummings structure and the ennui of it all.
Yeah, I polled some friends and they said the same thing. They just vibed with it.
Many great songs are simple and not technically impressive either, but still people like them.
Poetry isn’t just about being technical, it’s about communicating a thought or feeling. I relate to the feeling of time slipping away, and this poem communicates that feeling in a very effective way such that I feel a connection to the writer. That’s all.
My understanding of poetry is that the level you’re describing is for decent poems and then excellent ones are doing interesting things technically while being as emotionally engaging.
I’ll admit I was likely reading too deeply into the comments but I thought people were considering this poem excellent when it’s not at the level I described.
This feels like so many strings of thoughts I’ve had. Disjointed. Scattered. Words and images. Feelings. Slipping away.
I had no idea who Kyla was until I saw this post. I still don’t know, yet I know. She’s me. At least in this one respect.
I don’t even write this way normally. But I do think this way. Music.
