Does anyone know if the grievance is legitimate?
I just got the game and I’m not familiar with the history here, but I am using the original mod in question. I did verify the files as well and they are indeed the same.
I’m not even sure how to see if Donation Points are enabled on a particular mod or author’s account.
I don’t mind mod authors getting some kickback if that’s an option, but taking someone else’s work is rather poor.
Edit: Looks like this mod was now taken down.
Edit: There’s a forum post from the author of the mod in question that mentions talking to the Nexus staff.
Hopefully this was all just a bit of unnecessary drama.
If you go to the mod page in question (don’t donwload): https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/550
Click on “Permissions and credits” to expand the drop down menu. On the bottom of that there’s the point “Donation Points system”, which this particular download is opted into.I suggest to report this mod for abuse so that the Nexus staff can actually do something about it.
Thanks! Nexus’ UI is pretty dense, so nice to know how to know how to see if DP is active.
Looks like the “No DP Edition” indeed has opted out!
Ok, I’m not quite used to Nexus Mods appart from 2/3 rpg I modded. Would you please do an “explain like I’m 5” on that Donation Point thing ? That’d be really nice, because Party Limit Begone on BG3 works quite well with this mods fix
The uploader reuploaded another persons mod (which isn’t monetized) under a more clickbaity title and basically enabled Nexus related monetization to profit from it. So now everyone downloads this mod, the uploader gets rewarded for it, while the actual mod author of the mod you downloaded gets fuck all.
Oh, I see. Thank you very much for your explanation.
Seems legit, Norbyte is a name I recognize from Div modding days, doesn’t surprise me that they’ve written some of the key scripts for BG3 stuff.
The new mod does at least credit Norbyte/fig/etc, essentially reposting their work with SEO and monetization is more than a little scummy, though. (I also don’t know how to tell whether or not a mod is monetized, and if it’s not I don’t really care. But don’t really have reason to disbelieve that particular claim. /shurg)
Looks like the linked mod was pulled!
