Ex-president says members of United Auto Workers, which endorsed Harris, will vote for him despite Shawn Fain

The United Auto Workersā€™ decision to endorseĀ Kamala Harrisā€™ presidential run has apparently gotten under the skin of Donald Trump, who has responded by insulting the unionā€™s leader as ā€œa stupid personā€.

Trumpā€™s remarks allude to the harsh 100% tariff he hasĀ proposedĀ on imported cars. Economists haveĀ warnedĀ that such a tariff would raise product costs for Americans, but Trump has insisted on it, saying it reflects how he would prioritize the auto industry if returned to White House in Novemberā€™s election.

Fain and the UAW ā€“ one of the USā€™s largest and most diverse labor unions ā€“ nonetheless gave their coveted endorsement to the vice-president,Ā sayingĀ in a statement that Harris had a ā€œproven track record of delivering for the working classā€.

    Might be why it took so long to find messaging that hit. ā€œFascistā€? They shrug it off and call you the real fascist for calling them fascist. ā€œDeplorableā€? Too mean; Democrats arenā€™t allowed to be mean, and women definitely arenā€™t.

    ā€œWeirdā€ is what threads the needle. Who would have guessed that even weeks ago, much less in 2016?
