Not that anyone cares, but I give up on lemmy

Everything I post, even if factually correct, is downvoted within seconds without explanation

Every thread is a circlejerk of the same 3 topics, I learn nothing on lemmy

I’ve been sending people here everywhere else I go on the internet but I regret it now, every time I log in here it just makes me feel like shit

I really believed lemmy could grow to be an alternative to reddit but it’s 100% not happening and this place is going to die

I mean it’s very possible that I’m the asshole, but fact of the matter is I do not enjoy being here anymore and will no longer be contributing

    Was this you?

Don’t even pay attention to downvotes, they don’t really do anything unlike reddit

I guess it depends, personally I find it way better than the alternatives. Sure you have people with different opinions but thats a good thing, just block the trolls and assholes and carry on.

I’m in no position to tell you to stay or go, after all it’s your life to lead, nobody else’s…

Having said that, I can’t help but notice from taking a rather cursory glance at your post history that most of your posts are pretty well up-voted.

The only posts where you seem to be heavily down-voted are political posts, which by their very nature will invite disagreement - this is especially true when the posts you’re making touch upon rather controversial/inflammatory topics.

And if that’s what you’re complaining about being down-voted for, then you’ve really only yourself to blame for inviting that disagreement into your life.

I don’t know why 25 people down voted that cute dog. I see posts all the time that have down votes and I have no idea why so i just move on to the next.

I think this just means that the honeymoon is over.

In all seriousness, this is a common feature of any social media or human experience (hobby, relationship, etc) in general. When something is new and we are in the exciting discovery period, it seems great. After a while, the warts start to show. Some things begin to seem repetitive.

Lemmy does not have as much content as larger and older social media. It has limitations. the way people vote content is different from other sites because the structure and culture of the platform is different.

This is not to deny anyone’s experience. If you are no longer enjoying it or getting something out of it, take a break. That’s good advice for any social media.

My guy if you can’t handle 2 or 3 comments being harassed by trolls or vote brigades (that don’t even do anything) you are gonna have a shit time literally anywhere on the internet

Also instance and user block feature. Use it.

I partially agree. I do think that people in Lemmy - including me - are getting more hostile than before, but I also think that this doesn’t tell us the whole picture.

Lemmy is slowly developing its own social norms, apart from the ones in Reddit. This means that a lot of behaviour and discourses that would be accepted in Reddit aren’t accepted here, and vice versa.

I’ll give you two examples of the later. I don’t know if any applies to your case - again, those are examples.

    1. In Reddit, it’s common to use certain disingenuous forms of argumentation, such as using “I don’t understand” to convey “I disagree, but I expect you to waste your time explaining your view in minimal details while I keep distorting it”. (It’s a type of sealion BTW.) Here people are far more eager to call you out.
    2. If you derail a non-political discussion in Reddit with intrusive politics, there’s a high chance that you’ll be downvoted or even told to fuck off. Sadly, here people are a bit more eager to give you a free pass, as long as they agree with your political view.

There’s also a third factor that likely plays a role: here you can see the exact amount of downvotes. In Reddit you don’t, you just see the total score. So for example, a post at +25-10 here will show that you got 10 downvotes, but there it’ll show simply “+15”.

Is it surprising to you that posting this right wing shit got you down voted? Denying the lived experiences of residential school survivors?

How is that right wing? That article is factually correct

Nobody is denying residential school survivors, the fuck are you talking about? This is exactly my problem with this place, and your misinformation is already being upvoted

I care. Sorry to see you go. The fediverse can still grow, I suggest you at least stay to lurk and see. It’s just not happening at the pace we were all hoping for at the time. Is reddit really that much better? You’re not an asshole for being honest

Not sure about hostile, but I swear I see more downvotes these days that I used to!

Used to be you got downvoted for being a dick. Now you get downvoted if someone doesn’t like you. Just like Reddit I guess?

It’s more of a hivemind mentality that I see sometimes, but reddit is about the same or worse in that respect.
