I’ve joined several immigration-related subreddits because of my own life-situation nonsense. With how unpredictable Reddit is behaving, I’m having doubts whether the future of such subreddits are bright for people who need legal help or need to flee war-zones or stuff like that…
As far as I can observe, I haven’t seen many of those places (take the example of /r/IWantOut) migrate over to the fediverse yet.
So what are your thoughts/opinions on the future of those types of communities on Reddit?
Personally, I was on a couple support groups, and only like one has moved here, so far. I think, like always, people will find another space to setup shop. Hopefully it’ll be here, but it’ll be somewhere, if they don’t stay on reddit.
As for the ones on reddit, I think they will keep chugging along, but I think the content/help/info will take a pretty big nose dive. Between moderators leaving, and the influx (it was already a real issue) of bots, and the lack of the bigger users/contributors, I don’t think they will be nearly as helpful/informative as they were.
Perhaps you could start one here.
I don’t think I have the mental fortitude to mod a magazine, especially one having to deal with sensitive topics that could affect someone’s life… We’ll see how this goes tho
Ahhh, I understand. I hope then that someone else will start one that you can subscribe to. Wishing you well, internet friend.
I did like r/aspergers, but there is not anything like it yet. only a general autism magazine. I am not going to use reddit again just for that tho.
That’s why I am staying on Reddit for now. I haven’t found an equivalent to the kind of support group that I am in, at least not yet. Someone has actually started one in the Fediverse, but it’s empty, so not too terribly helpful as yet.
Maybe if the moderators leave and the group gets overrun with trolls, the users will go elsewhere.
