You can never take the word of a Trump voter, they’re never going to tell you the real reason they keep going back to him, because the real reason is he makes them feel free from the shame when they hurl slurs at the thanksgiving dinner table, or when they become the picture capture of historical movements that will definitely be regarded as the wrong side of history.
They obsess over their heritage of the confederacy not because it was successful or long lasting, but because it was the last time they felt liberated from their own shame.
