Hi @[email protected] , I’m new to Lemmy and looking for a home instance, being Australian, aussie.zone seems to fit the bill.
I see one of the instance rules is “No porn”.
I also see that there exists other instances such as lemmynsfw.com.
But I don’t appear to be able to subscribe to the communities there.
I can see their safe for work community: https://aussie.zone/c/[email protected] but not an actual community with content such as: https://aussie.zone/c/[email protected]
Have I simply misconfigured something, or will aussie.zone not allow me to federate to nsfw communities?
I’ve explicitly defederated from a couple of NSFW instances. I do not want their content replicated to the aussie.zone server.
No judgement, I’d just like to minimise the chances of legal issues. Also when I’ve checked, those instances are open registration…
This seems like such a huge flaw in Lemmy that any of that content needs to reside on your server just because a user wants to view it. I honestly thought the user profile just kept a list of preferences and subbed communities to populate a feed on demand for the user.
Its not that clearcut. Thumbnails for posts are stored on your home instance. Images that are uploaded are stored on the users’s home instance.
As it isn’t 100% clear, and the possible risk could shut this place down, I’d rather avoid the issue entirely as much as possible.
I understand this is your house and you make the rules. Thank you for your prompt answer.
Only when it comes to possible legal risk. Everything else (moderation, icons, communities etc) I’m open to suggestions.
