I can’t give more approval for this woman, she handled everything so well.

The backstory is that Cloudflare overhired and wanted to reduce headcount, rightsize, whatever terrible HR wording you choose. Instead of admitting that this was a layoff, which would grant her things like severance and unemployment - they tried to tell her that her performance was lacking.

And for most of us (myself included) we would angrily accept it and trash the company online. Not her, she goes directly against them. It of course doesn’t go anywhere because HR is a bunch of robots with no emotions that just parrot what papa company tells them to, but she still says what all of us wish we did.

(Warning, if you’ve ever been laid off this is a bit enraging and can bring up some feelings)

They don’t have anything to apologize for. They have zero idea about her or her performance or anything other than that her bosses etc determined she didn’t meet her targets/performance wasn’t up to scratch. They aren’t apologizing for anything they’ve done, they’re trying to make her feel better.

Yeah, you’re repeating your other comment dude. I answered that elsewhere. That’s why she asked where her manager was because her manager is the one who gives performance reviews. Why is the person who gives performance reviews not allowed at the meeting where her performance reviews are reviewed

I’ve been in corporate america a long time, this is not normal, this is sleazy behavior. I’ve been laid off, and I’ve been in meetings where we let people go. The manager is there, and a reason is always given.

Where did you see that they’re not allowed to be there?

        A reason was given.
