Damnit, if even one of Ruby’s parents is a Palpatine clone, I’m going for the pitchfork.
I read someone moaning that we’re a long way from Caves of Androzani. They conveniently forget that Caves of Androzani will forever be followed by that classic, end-of-season spectacular, The Twin Dilemma. And, while the critics might have quickly pointed out the flaws in Twin - namely, the characters, the plot, the pacing, the writing, the coat, the direction, and Mestor the mucus monster, it didn’t get criticised for the musical number, which it didn’t have, which is weird, as a lot of Brit actors were doing Panto at the time. But I digress.
I liked Church, I liked the fresh start, I liked the contrast of the Gilliam-esque absurd/surreal comedy horror (a musical number while a baby is threatened) followed by the famous bleak British horror (the darkness of humans without joy).
