As per the title.
I just tried taging someone for the first time and I didn’t get the magic blue link. I assume they don’t get notified unless it turns blue. I’m on the mobile site if that makes a difference. I’ve noticed a few other peoples comments with the same issue.
Comment for example. https://aussie.zone/comment/297324
The notification part only works if the mentioned users has reddit premium. Otherwise just works as a link to their account for everyone else.(Edit, thanks @Zagorath for the correction.)I’ve only ever seen people use the reddit implementation to talk about particular users (mods/spez notorious members of the sub, etc), or occasionally to call in a celebrity to notify that a thread is about them or that they should weigh in.
I like the way people are using them here, i.e more twitter/mastodon like. Where they use them to include others (op, reply comments parent user, etc) to include more people in the conversation.
I’m sorry but this is simply not true. Any /u/mention on Reddit will provide the user mentioned a notification, unless the comment mentions more than three users (to avoid easy spam).
Thanks for letting me know. It definitely used to be “Gold” only. . Didn’t know they gave it to everyone. Looks like it went global around 2015 but the blog post is gone. My reddit account is about twice that old. Either way not a commonly used feature in general threads.
