Currently police are only allowed to use handheld metal detectors to search people for weapons without a warrant in some places, like shopping centres and train stations.
This police overreach was first allowed on a trial basis by Labor, and is now being made permanent, and anywhere in public, by the LNP. Apparently the police won’t even have to tell the people they’re scanning that they’re being scanned. Which is a level of bullshit I didn’t think even the LNP were capable of.
