Absolutely - I honestly think Dune and Dune Messiah should be sold as one book.
Well aside from the time it totally bricked my system, it pretty good.
Well the power of Federation ships is directly related to what the plot needs, but in-universe yeah - Archer learned the hard way how exploring with an under-powered ship is just asking for alien assholes to harass you.
There was that Gates Foundation program in South America that attempted those genetic modifications and all of a sudden you had Zika exploding around the same regions. Coincidence? Maaaybe.

Transporters in Star Trek are shown to definitely not be duplication machines. “Our Man Bashir” (DS9) is probably the most definitive proof of that.
Personally, I think transporter technology explains the staunch atheist (but still open-minded and sometimes spiritualist) Federation mindset: they know that their entire being can be reduced to a matter/energy stream. The transporter makes a devastating philosophical challenge to the idea of a “soul.” Which is, ironically, why so many Federation officers refuse to accept anything that challenges that assumption (VOY “Sacred Ground”).
There was a great post here about how the “7 Logical Fallacies” has caused irrevocable harm to internet discourse, and I agree. That’s why we are the tip of the spear of asking “show hog.”
