  • i feel like most of the ways the old games were harder were just because of annoying design decisions like xp grinding being tedious or early gyms being too hard.

During my first pokemon game the electric type gym had 2/3 pokemon immune to ground type attacks so i got steamrolled for days. solved it by being gifted an arceus at a gamestore bc i did not understand the mechanics

now that problems like that have been mostly fixed GF should stop giving every trainer less than 5 pokemon, though. it is so hard to take pokemon characters seriously when they have less than 6 pokemon. Characters in pokemon games are like “I am going to re-create the world using the power of this legendary pokemon i have dedicated my entire life to capturing. this is my life’s work that i am willing to die for, by the way i only care enough about this plan to use 4 pokemon”

i haven’t played any pokemon games since the 3ds so idk if the new games are better about this but when maxie used 4 mons for their final fight in omega ruby it was insanely funny and nonsensical
