Denuvo was the controversial thing to do, that was what kept me from buying it.

I don’t understand how a game about action packed superheroes is helped by bringing combat to a screeching halt with this card bullshit. It’s the reason I played it for 5 minutes before uninstalling

I don’t really “get” the whole trend with digital card games/deck builders.

At first glance Midnight Suns looked like it might’ve been another Ultimate Alliance-type game, which I would’ve been all over. Then I saw “cards” and noped out immediately.

I didn’t mind the cards, thought they were kind of fun during the free weekend. The Dawson’s Creek style social stuff (that seemed like it was half the game) bored the crap out of me though.

It is an amazing game that is still holds a relatively low priority in my backlog. We literally got too much good stuff over the past few years.

Yeah, but looking at the games industry right now, we’ll likely have enough time for older games soon because new ones don’t come out anymore (or are GAAS trainwrecks).

I dunno. The indie sector is cranking out amazing games. It’s amazing, smaller, indie games that keep me from playing larger AAA games.

There are so many big budget games out recently that I’m massively backlogged on just 2024 games.

I don’t ascribe to this weirdo youtube fed narrative that everything is bad now, everything is so good right now I’m having an amazing time.

It is one of the most underrated games of all time IMO. It is what mass effect was for shooters, but for xcom style tactical games. It may not be for everyone but if you are in a mood for some marvel stuff and you like xcom, it is perfect.

There is A LOT of dialogue and while you can ignore some ambient dialogue, you cant skip direct dialogue. It is a “vibe” game and i think reviewers who are in a race to finish games, didnt like the vibe. But the characters and dialogue are surprisingly decent, marvel style stuff.

It is a very impressive game, in its artstyle and mechanics. You can see why they had high sales expectations. They have put a lot of thought and effort into it. And despite having cards, it feels less rng than xcom. Especially later on, you can manage rng better, you have more options.

I am not even a marvel fan, i think most of their movies are 6-7 out of 10 but i enjoyed learning about the characters and their in game renditions were fun(and moderately movie accurate). Xcom 2 is a top 10 game of all time for me. Midnight suns doesnt have the insane rng highs/lows and environmental spookiness(fog of war, etc) of xcom but midnight suns’ production values, characters and story might make it a better game.

PS You can have insane rng in midnight suns with pushing people off cliffs/into holes but thats a mechanic that i mostly avoided.

I respect their choice to try something new but I personally really hate the random aspect that card decks bring to the gameplay. I enjoyed the methodical tactical planning of X-COM and so I was really disappointed that someone smooshed a card game with that.

Yeah, I definitely would have bought it if it had been more like The Guardians of the Galaxy game.

It was a fun game for a bit, but the game also felt rather tedious at times.

I’ll probably play it more at some point, but I’ve stepped away from it for the time being.
