It’s paywalled, so I can only read the first couple of paragraphs, but I am not at all surprised the school did next to nothing. Schools don’t give a fuck about kids anymore. Individual teachers can. Schools don’t.

Currently fighting the school tooth and nail to help support my child who was violently assaulted in school grounds.

I wish they protected my son as much now as they’re protecting the kid who assaulted him.

Administration has taken a “prevent getting sued” stance rather than support the child stance.

The teachers and counselors hands are tied, it’s terrible.

I’m really, really sorry to hear that about your child and I hope they get justice. My daughter wasn’t treated that badly, but she was severely bullied which eventually led to a couple of girls prank calling her and doxing her on Discord. What did the school do? Put her in a group “therapy” session with the school counselor and made them all apologize to her- my daughter because she dared to get pissed off about the whole thing. That wasn’t the final straw, but we’ve taken her out and put her in online school. It means I had to leave my job to become what the school calls a ‘learning coach’ (it’s a state school, not a private school, but they require a parent to keep the kid on track) but it was our last resort. She was starting to have feelings of self-harm. The bullying never let up and the school didn’t give a shit.

I wonder, thinking back, if I would have had any recourse to sue the school for them making my daughter apologize to her bullies. Oh well, too late now.

My mom is a high school teacher, who probably would tell you herself that she cares too much about the kids.

She’s the kind of teacher to get to know her students personally to encourage them to succeed at anything, whether it’s school or a hobby they enjoy. She’s been told by her boss a couple times that she just needs to pass these kids, and to not worry about their home life no matter how bad it may be.

I honestly think it’s fucked that the school she works for literally told her to not care about her students and to just pass them regardless of how well they’re doing.
