I hate the sensation of having to get wet. It is a little overwhelming and I have to force myself to shower to be a presentable human being. I have severe KP and whatever else is wrong, so I have to scrub and scrub and scrub to get the flaky dead skin off so that when I get out I don’t get overwhelmed by the extreme itching and sometimes almost burning sensation. Trying to manage the skin condition with all the special creams, scrubs, and gentle soaps is almost impossible for me to keep up with, even though I know it will help.

It is the transitions that is the hard part, not so much showering. Any kind of transition can be hard. The number of times I have fully gotten ready, so I can go work in the office or maybe a coffee shop, and end up not leaving at all is rather annoying. I like going to work somewhere else for the day, but that transition can be a hill we don’t always get over. Especially when I don’t have any particular pressure to leave the house.

TLDR; Focus on the transitions are hard part of the comic, not the showering.

Imagine my displeasure at having to shower without a shower curtain for 2 years. Never bothered to put one up bc I didn’t think I’d live in this apartment for this long… I hate every minute of showering in the winter.

(Also, it’s not an ADHD thing in my case, the bathroom is a weird shape that doesn’t allow for a simple rod and curtain, I’d have to get a semi custom glass wall installed)

Every fancy bathroom I see these days has a shower with no curtain or glass. Is this just a humblebrag?

They have what they call walk-in showers now. Be sure Thry are designed so you’re not splashing water on surfaces that aren’t able to handle it.

Haha we’ll be moving next year and I swear, a proper shower is high on my list of demands! European landlords are fairly strict about even the tiniest structural changes. Granted, a shower curtain is negligible but as mentioned in another comment, our bathroom is tiny.

Ha I wish :( It’s a drafty European flat from the 1910s, the bathroom is 1,5 meters by 3 meters and there’s a so called “shame wall” between loo and tub that is a weird wooden privacy panel. A shower curtain would make this tiny room even more cramped unfortunately which is mainly why we never wanted to go to the trouble. That being said, its a nice place during the warner months!

Does everyone put off showering until they absolutely have to / risk social standing over it? I shower once a week. Twice when I have an office job. Once every 10 days if I don’t. Everybody has quirks. When those quirks negatively affect your life that’s when it gets into neurodivergent territory

Some people like showering or the feeling of being clean.

But that is definitely not everyone.

Don’t you know the stereotype of high schoolers using deodorant instead of taking a shower?

        It isn’t an ADHD thing.

It can be an ADHD thing, and also a regular thing 🤷🏼‍♀️ insomnia is a symptom of depression, but not everyone who has trouble sleeping is depressed.

I love the feeling of being clean and fresh the day of/ after a shower. I assumed everyone does. That doesn’t really help me get into the shower.
