Good thing china is so transparent on this situation and shares the number of cases and the medical specialties of this new illness with all the other nations, to fight it in an early stage and prepare for the next weeks. Right? Right?
I’m convinced this is already in the US. I haven’t been sick whatsoever since 2020 and came down with a nasty bout of pneumonia on Thanksgiving. I only ever go to work and the grocery store so I have no idea how I got it. I was laid up in bed for 5 days and nothing helped. Felt just like COVID.
That sounds significantly less dangerous than this in China. My girlfriend has been on antibiotics for more than a week and still has pneumonia. She’s much better, but definitely far from recovered. Laid up for 5 days would be a blessing compared to what she’s been through.
Sorry to hear that man, I hope she recovers soon.
Thanks dude/ette. Here’s hoping the second round of antibiotics is able to clear out the remaining infection. At least they have pretty good sick leave laws there, she gets up to 6 months at 60% pay, and her job is secured. Thankfully medical care is cheap there, too.
The great minds of YouTube speculate that this outbreak has a fungal component.
China had a lot of floods this year. All that moisture and mud created an environment for mold to develop.
People would breathe in a lot of mold spores which would weaken their lungs and immune systems.
In weak lungs, bacteria like mycoplasma could develop and thrive, causing pneumonia.
It’s just a theory for now, but we’ll see how it develops.
If it’s fungal we are very, very, VERY fucked.
antibiotic-resistant pneumonia
My girlfriend has been down with this for about 3 weeks now. First week, she thought it was a cold and just kept getting more and more sick. Finally went to the hospital and they found white spots on her lungs via CT. Put her on antibiotics for 7 days. At the end of the 7 days, she was still sick, but holy shit was she so much better. From barely able to walk and literally collapsing trying to use the squatting toilet at the hospital, to being able to take herself to the clinic every day, and still having energy to get food on the way home, in 7 days. Now she’s on a second round of the same antibiotics for another 5 days… hopefully she’s fully recovered, if not, I’m not sure what they’ll do other than a third round of IV antibiotics.
