    I taught high school for about a decade in a working class community (70%+ free/reduced lunch, could count the number of white kids in the whole school on one hand), and received maybe 3 presents from families in that span. It’s a thing, but I think it’s a white middle class thing.

    Definitely a thing. My mom was a preschool teacher and came home with a pile of gifts every Christmas. Some of them were even good. And then one year she got a triangle folded American flag framed with a plaque with her name on it from one of her soldier parents. She proudly displays it and always talks about how honored she is to receive that from a Real American Hero.

    I don’t talk with my mom much.
