Last week, privacy advocate (and very occasional Reg columnist) Alexander Hanff filed a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) decrying YouTube’s deployment of JavaScript code to detect the use of ad blocking extensions by website visitors.

Shame my country’s not in the EU any more, I would have liked to have that protection too.
While non-EU countries may not benefit directly, any legal challenges and roadblocks are generally good and may have ripple effects that do wind up benefiting you in the end. As an example, the only reason iPhones have USB-C ports now is because of EU laws. So who knows what this may lead to.
