I made a pair of log dogs for my dad for $10 worth of rebar. These can cost around $50, so they were well worth the time.
The process was really simple. Heat the rebar til pliable, and bend it in a vice. Re-heat, and quench in oil.
I thought this was cool, and my dad was super happy with them.
(I’d make and sell them if anyone was interested :) )
Very nice!
Side note: What axe is that?
It’s a biber broad Axe, hand forged in austria. it’s my dad’s pride and joy lol

Nice work! I made one but had learned from Denis Frechette of “DF in the Shop” that the corners are ideally square. I don’t know how much you’ve done, but making upset square corners are a new whole technique to learn. Of course, many say the same about holdfasts and drive hooks, but I have seen lots of those rounded too.
I can’t say mine were especially well done; in fact, I should probably take some time and clean them up. (Not to mention that, seeing the photo on a larger screen, I see my camera’s focus was off. Oops.)
