Anybody play this?

Some friends introduced it to me, I liked the idea of having to play the cards in the sequence received.

All bean troll posts aside, it‘s one of my family favorites! With my kids I play it in coop mode to beat our own highscore.

The art is ugly af, but the design is awesome!

I kind of like the art. I feel like it fit the game - kind of rustic farming-y.

We used to play it all the time. It’s originally a German game. Tons of fun with 4 people. Less fun the less people in my opinion.

Agreed. We played with 6 or 7. Luckily it doesn’t have the critical mass issue of being bored while waiting for your turn.

I have played this, it was a lot of fun with three players. This is one of the first (or even the first) game from Uwe Rosenberg. He is well known for some other great boardgames like Agricola, Patchwork and Feast for Odin.

Great game! I love that it’s full of wheeling and dealing, but that it actively encourages generosity by how the bean planting works. Means everyone gets to be a boisterous bean merchant, but no one feels like they never get any deals or are getting scammed

I’ve played it a lot, and I’d recommend it!

I’m a huge fan of using it as an ice breaker if you’re meeting new people. It’s a fairly social game, with “low-stakes” negotiations on the table, so I think it’s a great way to see how’s people think, interact, and cooperate (or not haha).

I love how different it can be depending on the audience. My partner’s family is… almost too wholesome? They help each other out a lot lol. My tech & numbers friends are fiercely competitive in their trading lmao.

Let me know if you have any questions about it!

Edit: If you have a set that includes “3rd Bean Field” cards, just ignore 'em. Later editions removed them because statistically they’re almost always a bad idea, so they’re really just a trap lol.

      Agree about the trap.

One thing that I find interesting about Bohnanza is how the question “what is the current market value” isn’t always “what am I getting for it” (as in receiving a bean card) and that changes by player count and groups to encompass “sometimes I’m getting out of a jam.” For example, at 3p, I’m more likely to find that I have to offer something else out of my hand (and I would argue, for flow purposes, probably have an incentive to) to sweeten the deal, or even just give it away and offer something to get someone to take it. That leverage fades as you add more players to the point where at 7p, I find it’s more of an auction as there are multiple people interested in the beans on offer courtesy of so many fields being in the game.

I played this with 5 players. It was fun, but I did find it somewhat limiting and was constantly wishing I was not as constrained by the rules, but I guess that’s part of the game.

I’ve tried the digital version and it just didn’t click… everybody seems to love it but the art, dozens of different versions and player count (not good with 2) always makes me think twice before buying.

But ’m pretty sure I’ll get it one day 😅

I’ve never actually played this but I do have a weird board game spin-off buried somewhere
