They have redesigned the website for safe browsing, made it generic looking and put a “quick exit” bar at the top that immediately changes the display to the Weather Channel. It’s still the same volunteer organization flying people out to other states to get gender care, abortions, birth control, etc.
It’s crazy to think that a perfectly normal website, devoted to healthcare access, needs a “Quick Exit” button, as if it’s porn or some flash game website from the the 2000s. I understand why it’s necessary, but it’s just sad.
Of course, the more depressing fact is that this site and service exists at all, especially in the US. The supposed Land of the Free.
I’m glad this and services like the “Auntie Network” exist, but they shouldn’t have to.
It is very common, 2 resources with similar quick exit features that come to mind are The Trevor Project and Rainbow Passage.
If we are assembling a list of resources, can we include these two? As well as Rainbow Railroad, which sounds similar to Rainbow Passage but working internationally. https://www.rainbowrailroad.org/
Getting access to these resources is stressful enough in a normal setting, but holy shit… how horrifying that this is necessary?
I’m glad there are brave people out there to offer help. Thanks for posting so we can donate even outside the US.
I can’t believe this is what it’s come to. I’m in a state where this resource would be necessary. Our people and our youth don’t deserve this.
Not only that, but when you swipe on the browser to go back, it’s a brand new window that has closed the previous one so it can’t be early recessed by someone taking a phone and pressing the back button.
@[email protected] Can we have a Resources collection pinned or listed on the sidebar? 🥺
it’s definitely possible, yeah, but i can’t commit to curating it or compiling it in the immediate term so if you want it quickly you/the people in this community will have to take a bit of the initiative here in compiling it and then linking it to me or another mod. (paging @[email protected] and @[email protected])
Absolutely - happy to help put one together if people want to reply to this comment with some suggested resources?
Alyaza, does lemmy have a wiki-like feature we can make a resource list on if the list gets very long? Or is it easier to just make a post and link to it?
probably easier to make a long post (or posts) and link to it on our sidebar; there’s no wiki feature that i’m aware of alas
Very smart move. I grew up in an evangelical household and yeah, a quick way to navigate away from a site like this could literally save some people’s lives. Sad we have to think like this, but it’s where we are.
