I’ve never been one to care about this sort of shit happening to famous people, but the work of RMS has provided me with so much. It has allowed me to have a hobby, it has enabled my career. I appreciate his unwavering dedication towards his ideals. I wish I could be this dedicated…
One of the comments on TheReg hit me hard:
His absolutist, no-compromise attitude to software freedom has benefited all of us, even if sadly it’s earned him detractors on the way.
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
If ever that quote applied to anyone, it’s RMS. I’m more on the esr side of things, but you can’t deny that without RMS we probably would be more locked into walled gardens than we are now.
I had non-hodgkins lymphoma. Doctors all told me it was the “common cold” of cancers. Caught in stage 1, it has like a 99% survival rate. Of all the cancers in the world to have, this one is the one to get for the best chances of survival. I had mine caught when I was 25 and only did radiation therapy for it.
Glad to have you with us today!
Yeah I had family come out of the woodwork with all sorts of crazy religious things and praying and telling me I should eat ancient african fruits and all I can think is…
Thank fucking science and every person out there who seeks to know more about the world and biology. It was thanks to all of their hard work, discovery, etc that I was able to survive. I’m sure Stallman will be fine. He just needs to stop eating his toe fungus.
A bit off topic, but your response screams you’re from US. Glad you’re on the sane side, though!
Good guess :)
Unfortunately I have attained quite a few unpopular opinions throughout my life that makes me unagreeable among extremists (left and right alike). But yeah, no imaginary head goblins for me. I’ll stick to empirical, fact-based evidence please.
