Too bad Signal app could not be released in F-Droid repo
It can, and it could. Especially if reproducible builds allowing for the app developer to sign their own binaries
True, however it is not on F-Droid. Glad there is Molly for us degoogled Android users.
Yes because the signal leadership at the time had reservations about allowing fdoid to sign their app. That is no longer an issue. Now the only issue is their stubborn, and they’re unwilling to change their minds.
What’s with the downvotes? Is it because of signal? An issue with this project in particular? Something else?
That’s my question
Probably because it’s Android only.
That applies to a lot of open source apps.
Not every app needs cross-platform support as much as a messenger. But my comment was based on comments from the cross-post https://lemmy.zip/post/2846600
They have a few nice features, but them being a 3rd party client also adds overhead. They update every 2 weeks from upstream (with security patches as they become available + someone being able to merge them).
I think it being on F-Droid is a wrong “selling” point. F-Droid is great store, but they have nothing to do with security/freedom.
F-droid has everything to do with freedom. Name one other app store that groups free software in one place
GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, Gitea, IzzyOnDroid and Obtainium integrates them all into one.
If this returns/retains long term sms / mms functions i might consider it.
As with Signal, SMS is not supported.
