Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to gardening, this is my first year attempting to plant anything and I planted some peony bulbs. I was just wondering why some are sprouting so far away from where I planted them? For instance in the pic I planted at X and I’ve circled where it decided to pop up. Is this common?

Edit: I must’ve chosen the wrong creation type for the article cause it’s not previewing the image but just click the title, I promise one is there!

So update: I went to dig it up and transplant it and the root went super deep so I dug as far as I could and then tried pulling, ended up shreddig the whole thing. The bulb I planted was still there with a little eye sprouting out so maybe it was an old one planted by the previous owner that I havent noticed the last 2 years since I bought this house? I’m honestly so confused lol. Also super disappointed I killed it. I planted the little top bit but im sure it’ll just wilt and die in a couple days.

Peonies have a bulbous root mass that expands over time. They are not really bulbs, and they are pretty tough.
