    Like most things in the film industry, space battle follows the rule of cool above all else.

      Of all the silly handwaving, Galaxy Quest got this one right. Two guys yelling at each other on viewscreens. Then one shoots something at the other and the only indication is the “radar” says something’s headed toward the ship. No sign of the other ships in an actual fight.

        Which is certainly how things would go in a real space battle. Everything would be beyond visual range, almost certainly you’d never see the enemy ship.

    You don’t see all the electronic warfare that goes on in the background of sci-fi battles. Flak is simply more resistant to it.

      FWIW the star wars justification is that shields block energy weapons but not kinetic weapons.

      Thats why mandalorians shoot bullets.
