Is there a particular name for a sushi roll that’s cone shaped? Not a cylinder - rolled into a cone around a generous dose of filling with one very narrow end and one wide one. Seriously so much easier to eat as the filling/rice doesn’t fall out the end for the last couple of bites.
Yes, it’s temaki, which means “hand roll”. Sounds confusing at first, but your usual cylindrical sushi (maki sushi) is not meant to be served or sold as a hand roll like they are here, it’s meant to be served sliced. So the only real “hand roll” sushi is the cone type. But it doesn’t pack very well so I guess that’s why it’s not commonly sold here.
Thanks! The one surviving sushi joint in Bridge Road Richmond has these - top and tailed two to a pack. Haven’t been in there for a while, so I was happy to see these and a very nice selection of very pretty bento boxes. Real works of art. Wabi Sushi near corner of Church St if anyone else is interested.

Oh yes! Ate there a few months back when the weather was still hot. It was nice.
I’m going to have to check this place out soon! On the hunt for some authentic sushi since Popula in Ivanhoe is no more.
