Funny you should bring up the Appalacian Trail. I’ll be “completing” it sometime this afternoon. The Garmin app lets you do virtual expeditions.
I’ve been on the Appalacian Trail since May 27. So it has taken 7.5 months to finish the thing!

The Bibulmum Track in WA is 1,000km long. Hike from Albany to the Perth Hills. I don’t know of any walks in Australia that are longer than that one.

I did half the bibbulmun track in one go about 6-7 years ago. Was an amazing experience. The Pacific Crest Trail is on my bucket list

The bicentennial trail is 5 times longer, and the Heyman trail is very slightly longer too. Edit: Heysen trail

The Bicentennial Trail is super interesting, as someone who has driven to Cooktown (and beyond) from Melbourne the thought of walking there is absolutely insane. You’d definitely experience some insane weather and landscape changes.

The Pacific Crest is the dream, the cost and prep makes my eyes fall out my skull though.

Ooh - that Bicentennial National Trail is amazing. Cooktown to Healesville! It isn’t a constructed trail, though: I’m not sure how you could even coordinate that across three states and the ACT. I think I’d still be up for trying it regardless. Six months of hiking - if only I didn’t have to work for a living!!

I plan on doing the Bibulmun end-to-end someday. Hopefully before I retire and am too old for it!
