How to keep carpet clean?

Living in a place with carpeted floors for the first time. What kind of cleaning routine should I have to keep the carpet clean?

Just make sure your vac has a brush head. Powered, if possible- not just working off the airflow. I have a Kirby, but that sort of thing is a long term investment and not for everyone. Miele machines are good, Dyson is not bad, just icky cleaning filters all the time.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
