I have a question I feel like people will get mad at me for, but screw it, I’m going to ask anyway: why is that recipetineat website so popular? It seems like nearly everybody in the country goes feral for it, and I really don’t understand the appeal. I do appreciate the jump to recipe button, but that’s fairly common now adays, and I do also appreciate the extensive notes but some other recipe sites have those too (JustOneCookbook comes to mind).
Is it just the fact it’s Australian?
The recipes are legit delicious and include some seriously handy tips. It really feels like it’s been written by someone who’s cooked the recipe heaps of times and thought about what the average person might mess up or need substitutions for, etc. They’re also great for beginners learning cooking techniques and how to taste for certain things etc. You have to have tried a few recipes to go “oh wow”.
On top of that, the sheer range of cuisines and dish types makes it invaluable for everything from staples to banquets.
Thanks for the polite and helpful explanation! Somebody gifted me her cookbook as a housewarming/Chrissy thing. I’ve had a flick through and yeah it does seem like a decent range of cuisines
I’ve gifted that cookbook a couple of times to rave reviews. Me, I’m too messy to use a cookbook now, but it’s really great for recipe inspiration when you’re starting out on your own (I used to rely on a Madhur Jaffrey cookbook gifted to me when I first started uni).
Easier to write notes in, stay focused when you’ve picked a recipe and are making it, and great for just randomly looking at things you might have never thought to look up
If you wanted some other options that were Australian measurements, easy to follow and basic ingredients try Survival For The Fittest and Survival From The Fittest. (Sorry second one isn’t in stock atm but try ebay.)
I already gave away my copies but there’s also the website for free.
It straight up tells you to use frozen veg instead of chopping to save time and that is my kind of cookbook.
The recipies are simple, reliable, made with easily available ingredients. The method is also explained in all relevant details, with a video too. Basically, Nagi makes delicious food and explains how to make it well at home.
Any recipes I’ve made from that website end up being pretty tasty. It’s trustworthy. AU measurements help.
Not all online recipe websites are made equal (eg. Taste, 50/50 gamble there from my experience).
She has a wide range of recipes and they’re easy to follow. She also gives alternative ingredients.
I can’t forgive her for her trifle recipe though. It’s bullshit you have to make your own jelly from scratch. We all grew up on Aeroplane Jelly in trifle. Nothing wrong with it.

Her recipes are easy to follow and I haven’t had one fail yet. The tips and suggest substitutes are always bang on. And there’s a dog.
Being Australian is very good. Measures are for Australian cups and are in grams. The ingredients are available to us too.
But I don’t use her recipes as I find them a bit hot spicy hot for my sometime sensitive tummy.
I have many many cookbooks, I have no idea what that site is 😂
What’s that series called? I like the idea of separate books for specific meals or vibes/styles
She wrote a cookbook, too, which I now possess. I generally prefer websites though because I feel like any spills on my phone are much more easily wiped/cleaned up than spilling oil or vinegar onto an expensive cookbook
They’re a few volumes of the Cook Book Co series, Ive been trying to find them online for you but apparently it’s really hard 😭 unfortunately my ex bought those so I’m not sure how they obtained them.
There’s a whole bunch of volumes from memory, I only have a few there.
Cheers for looking chudsy! It’s all good, I don’t really do cookbooks
If you ever decide to not just sail the high seas but actively create them, send me a scan of 'em hey? 😂
