    I’ve got a rice cooker but I would die without it (it’s old and second hand but a good brand), don’t want to risk somehow messing it up with anything fancier than takikomi gohan in it once in a while.

    With one pot meals, I don’t mind making rice separately to that - one big batch is worth cleaning the rice cooker pot and inserts for (and I never washed them in the dishwasher so I’m used to doing that by hand, at least).

      That’s valid. I even used to make one pot meals in a saucepan with a lid. Maybe you can get a basic beater you don’t really care about from the op shop and donate it back when you move.

      Making separate rice and viands means there will be enough for a few meals which reduces washing.

      Storage is annoying… I found saucepans can fit in the oven for storage but I had to take the lids off (as I left the oven racks in). You can hang pots as well
